“I learned that we can dry clothes in the sun instead of using dryer, open windows on warm days cooling home. We can make a Sun Ray Oven-box with magnifying glass on top to heat food saving energy.”

Abhishek, Gombert Elementary, 2nd

1st Place Finalist

“I learned how to be energy efficient by using the new light bulbs, reuse material bags, by turning off lights and unplugging cords.”

Callie, East Dubuque School, 1st

2nd Place Finalist

“I learned that I can save energy by turning out the lights when I leave home. It's easy, even a kid my age can do it.”

Josh, Gombert Elementary, 2nd

3rd Place Finalist

“Everybody should bring a lunch box or reusable lunch bag when bringing cold lunch.”

Tatym, East Dubuque School, Kindergarten

Grand Prize

“While I made my poster, I was encouraged to take 5-minute showers to preserve water. I also learned that we can keep drapes open to heat the house. I hope to help the earth in a big way.”

Vincent, Herbert Hoover Elem., 5th

1st Place Finalist

“I've learned that small actions I take at home can make a big difference in energy conservation. I will now shorten my showers, limit TV, shut down my computer, and turn off lights unless I need them. Go Green!”

Molly, Epiphany Catholic School, 4th

2nd Place Finalist

“I learned that conserving energy saves money. First, I believe solar panels are great for the house. Next, I turn off the water and lights when I don't need them. This way it saves energy and money!”

Katrina, Robert Hill Elementary, 5th

3rd Place Finalist

“After doing this poster, it became a whirlwind. I decided that I could make a change by saving energy. Now, I turn off lights when I leave a room. Now, I take shorter showers. I feel like a cleaner person.”

Danny, Winfield Central School, 5th

Grand Prize

“What I learned from making this poster was that even all the little things we do to save energy can make a difference. Also, even though we are kids we can make changes for a better tomorrow..”

Nina Cassandra, Liberty Jr. High, 8th

1st Place Finalist

“The actions that I am taking are turning off the lights when I leave a room, using coldwater to wash hands and brush teeth, taking short showers, and turning on ceiling fan to rotate hot air.”

Martin, Cambridge Lakes Charter School, 6th

2nd Place Finalist

“I learned that energy can be used in many kinds of forms. The one energy that intrigued me the most was solar power. I displayed that in my poster by: making the sun my focal point, sketching Chicago buildings to show a current electric powered city, solar panels to show it can be used as another source of energy, and a girl in wonderment of energy efficiency.”

Arrielle, Liberty Jr. High, 8th

3rd Place Finalist

“From this project, I learned that we should take care of our environment. For example, we can plant more trees because they give us oxygen. We can also carpool, save water and recycle. Also I learned that windmills save energy that can be used later.”

Magda, St. John Brebeuf, 8th
