“We should plant trees and bushes around our houses to help save energy. Plants around the house in summer help keep it cool and warm in the winter like a green blanket.”

Demetrius, Gary D. Wright School

1st Place Finalist

“I learned that energy is very important to our everyday lives. I also know that as a second grader I can do my part to save energy. We need energy for the future so why not save now?”

Abrielle, Pope John XXIII School

2nd Place Finalist

“I learned there are lots of easy ways to save energy. If everyone does just a few of these things it will make a big difference.”

Sophie, Pope John XXIII School

3rd Place Finalist

“Be nice to the earth. Use less energy, go outside to play instead of sitting inside using energy watching television or playing video games. Its good for the earth and you get to play outside. We love earth and want to take care of it nicely.”

Amelia, Pope John XXIII School

“By sharing rides to and from work we will not only save energy but will help control traffic everywhere! It is the right thing to do for us and the earth.”

Cecilia, Gary D. Wright School

1st Place Finalist

“I learned that my family and I aren't saving enough energy. We can do much more. It's as easy as closing drapes on a window. Saving energy means saving money. Maybe we can go to Disney World this year!”

Emma, St. Cletus School

2nd Place Finalist

“After going through this experience I have begun to be energy efficient. Saving energy is very important to the world. To be efficient, use florescent light bulbs and unplug appliances. I shall support you and I hope you will support me.”

Justin, Herbert Hoover School

3rd Place Finalist

“As I was looking around my home, I saw many opportunities to conserve energy. While most of them are small, they can easily be done and add up to significant energy savings.”

Karoline, St. Cletus School

Grand Prize

“I learned that saving energy saves money and makes the world a better place. Everyone should learn how to save energy and use it wisely. So save as much energy as you can and only use what you need.”

Heidi Christine, Good Shepherd Academy

1st Place Finalist

“The most important thing I learned is that you can save energy in small and large ways. By turning off lights and unplugging unused electronics, to driving hybrids and installing solar panels, anyone can make a difference.”

Joeanna, Lincoln Jr. High

2nd Place Finalist

“The most important thing I learned about energy efficiency is to make sure that you don't waste it because when it's gone, it's gone. And there are so many ways to actually save energy that's easy for everyone.”

Amanda, John F. Kennedy Middle

3rd Place Finalist

“The most important thing I learned from this project is all the small, simple things we can do everyday, that make such a big difference in the long run. Before this assignment, I never knew you could have your Christmas tree recycled!”

Kenzie, Monroe Middle School
